New Anime!
This is not necessarily a new anime, but it is new for me!
My friend Jackie got me back into loving anime by showing me Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun. It is a 12 episode rom-com themed anime, which is just the cutest. I loved all the characters, and found myself laughing out loud at some scenes which I feel like I have not done during an anime since I watched Ouran High School Host Club years ago.
Chiyo Sakura is the main character who has a huge crush on Umetaro Nozaki:
(Nozaki made her a bento box and she made it her background).
In an attempt to confess her feelings to him, he ends up giving her an autograph when she is left speechless. She later on finds out that he is a popular romance manga artist, coincidentally she enjoys the manga.
The funny thing is, Nozaki writes this sickly sweet romance manga, but he is as dense as a wall, unable to realize Sakura's feelings for him.
As the show progresses we are introduced to the other loveable characters. A shy guy who pretends to be a confident player (Mikoshiba), a woman prince of the school (Kashima), a brash personality with a wonderful singing voice (Yuzuki), the president of the drama club who tries to "tame" Kashima (Hori), and a basketball player who is the main target of Yuzuki's effects (Wakamatsu).
Sakura ends up being reeled into helping Nozaki with his manga because she is able to fill in backgrounds really well. Along with her, Mikoshiba, Hori, and Wakamatsu also help with the manga, as an artist for filler, flowers, writing scenarios, and screentones.
Overall I would give this anime a 5/5 star rating as it was not overly romantic, as Sakura's crush was a normal one, and it made me laugh through each episode. I loved each and every character and loved how they all had different personalities, rather than being copies of each other like other shows. BUT THE ENDING MADE ME SCREAM - so if you watch it, have fun with that!
I definitely want to add "watch more anime" onto my 2018 goal list!
